At Summit we look for ways to go beyond our business and engage with the local community, building lasting relationships while supporting local charitable initiatives. This holiday season we were all proud to support the YWCA Toy Drive for the Family Housing Program at Rockhill.
Through the generous support of our team we were able to make Christmas a little brighter for 66 children living in our local community. The YWCA awarded us with a Certificate of Appreciation to honour our five years of support of the program.
The transitional housing program at Rockhill is for homeless families. What makes Rockhill different from an ordinary apartment building is the care and attention of two family support workers and after hours security. The family support workers look at issues such as debt, addictions, and violence that have destabilized the family’s housing in the past. They work with families to make positive changes (such as repaying rental arrears and saving for a damage deposit) and to learn new skills such as cooking, literacy, budgeting, etc. After a stay of a year or so, newly-stable families move on to public housing or market rentals.
This is a wonderful cause that makes a huge difference in our local community and our participation and commitment in supporting this toy drive year after year is something that makes us all proud.
